Assignment Complete!

Hey Ladies,
I had a wonderful lazy morning last week, my mom and I had a little garage sale so I had some time to sit around and get this done. I was really happy with our assignment b/c I have been wanting to start my coffee table book of "Amazing People I Know". So it is off to a simple start of
MY DAD: The hard working fix any thing guy!
I think I used all that you gave me Jenny...except there was a malfunction with the eyelets...I smashed em...oops its been a while.
MY MAMA: The crazy lady we all know and love. (I still have to journal this one)

Extension granted

Sorry ladies, I know that the packages did arrive a bit late. I know I shouldn't make an excuse but I wasn't able to get to the post office when it was open until my mom was done with school. And don't worry about the deadline, it was just a thought, the end of June is fine. I finished my flower book a while ago and I have to remember to post my pics of it. Well happy scrapping and sorry for the late package.

A Little Bit of Handmade Homework

So here's a little assignment to tide you over until your packages arrive. Within the next week create a little something for someone far away. Make it personal to them, make something to do with a hobby of theirs or an interest. I, for example, made this little book for my bff Megan. It's a little notebook for her to write down the names of all of the books she reads. She's such a bookworm so I thought what a better gift than this. It didn't cost me anything, I had all of the supplies at home. It doesn't have to be anything big, you could even bake some cookies or something. I think it's always nice to get a little mailbox lovin' just for fun, no birthday or special occasion, just because. So within this next week make a little something for someone and snap a few pics before you send it off. Have fun. Below are a few more pictures of my little notebook for Megan. And I have to admit I did get this idea from Barnes and Noble but I thought I'd make my own version for free!

I used my library stamp and snagged a library check out card from my mom!

A handy little slot on the inside cover for her library card

A large section of the notebook for recording books she's read.

A section of the notebook for books she wants to read

The back cover

My newest project

I'm currently knitting this cute shrug in a coco brown color, it's my biggest knitting undertaking yet and I for sure couldn't do it without my mom's guiding hand although she hasn't had to help me as much as I thought she would have to, so far I'm done with the back piece and one sleeve so I have one sleeve to go and two front pieces which shouldn't take long and then I just have to put it all together. So much more fun than knitting a scarf. I'll share when I'm done, which hopefully won't be too much longer.

a quick quote for your may books:

"In a way,
no one sees a flower really,
it is so small
we haven't time,
and to see
takes time."

Free Rice

So I stumbled upon this website {www.freerice.com} in Elle magazine and I should have posted about it when it was Amy's month all about giving but I'm telling you guys about it now. When you go to this website it will give you a word with multiple choice answers to choose from as to what the definition of the word is. For every word that you answer with the correct definition freerice with donate 20 grains of rice to poverty countries to help solve world hunger. It's totally free and you can do as many words at a time as you want, if you get one wrong it doesn't matter just keep going. This is for real too it's not a fake thing, you can read about it on the website. Megan and I have been doing it lately and you guys should check it out. Just thought I'd let you know.

East Coast Flowers

Please correct me if I'm wrong- Clematis
Lily of the valley. I must say. These are one of my most favorite flowers. I love how they delicately droop down. I have such fond memories of the ones that grew in the little crack between the house and the sidewalk on the back side of our house in Waterloo. I can remember the scent just like a perfume and I was so intrigued that they grew there in that tiny spot. And lily of the valleys are so much fun to pipe out of frosting too! And what a beautiful name, I wonder who the woman was who named it? I imagine it had to be a woman, a man wouldn't have come up with such a magical name.
Ah, and here is another one that brings back those childhood memories. Lilacs! Huge lilac trees bordered one whole side of our house in Waterloo. Whenever a gentle breeze blew the whole backyard was filled with that pleasant, sweet aroma!
Ok, I need some help here. Does anyone know this one?
Another kind of wild Trillium I do believe
And these 3 are columbine. I have some other pretty colors of some over here on the west coast. I just had to share all 3 pics because I love the way they look standing, and then close up when you flip them over to look at the petals as well.
Wild Daisy. Ok, so I know no technical name

Ok ladies. I have totally been slacking on the artsy side of this months challenge (or shall I say last months challenge), but I must tell you I have been spending some great time in the outdoors and I have been noticing all the beautiful flowers. Since I just happened to be visiting Elizabeth in New York this month, and since we did so much hiking I got a chance to take a lot of flower pics from the East coast. You'll notice, no extra credit for this girl, I don't know latin and just happened to find some easy flowers I knew the names of already! But rest assured, the books came out for the west side gardening going on over here!

I know we're all a little delayed in our posting, but how cool that we will get to see New York, California, Minnesota, Washington, and Hawaii flowers! Yay for vacations! As Jess said, I love that this months challenge takes advantage of all the different places we live (or visited) My only problem now is, which pictures to choose to put in the little book? Do I do the Tulip festival pics? The New York ones? Or the ones that we're working so hard to grow out here at the lodge? Decisions, decisions!

June Challenge

So my month is finally here. I just finished putting the packages together, which was a lot of fun to do, and now I have to send them out. I have included the directions in the package but I'll post more once you've received your packages. So drop a comment and let me know when your's arrives in the mail.

Sweater Challenge Completed

So I am home for the summer which means I finally have access to a sewing machine and therefore I was able to create these projects out of my sweaters. I made the headband out of the waistband of my green sweater then I used a piece of a dark green sweater vest to make the flower and I used a scrapbooking flower and a button to top it off. My next project is a pillow for my grandma. I just used the middle part of the green sweater and sewed it together. I printed the picture on fabric paper and sewed buttons all around. In a couple of weeks she's turning 90 so this is my birthday gift to her. I had a lot of fun making these projects. Great challenge Amy, sorry I was so late in finishing it. I still have some scraps leftover and I have a few more things up my sleeve so if I get them done I will post them.
